April Poem a Day Challenge – NaPoWriMo #23

I have returned to a story I started writing for Camp NaNoWriMo in 2012.  I thought it was a little young adult coming-of-age novel about werewolves but [surprise! she said sarcastically] it’s about me.  This phrase came to mind as I was working on this yesterday, ‘where my bones are.’  So here’s the poem that sprung from that.

My bones are
in the dirt
that fed my great-grandparents

My bones are
in the trees
my grandfather planted

My bones
tether me to the
places
I come from
